two sidecar rigs

A very nice purchase for someone: Taken down in Texas were these two sidecar bikes with assorted spares. The R75 seems to include a spare engine, and also an ammo cart (seen on end). The plunger BMW sports a Steib LS200.

1939 R71

A 1939 BMW R71 as seen at the BMWMOA rally in 1976. There were darn few people interested in the old BMWs back then, and this fellow had a pretty nice one. The pre-war "bell" front fender can be seen well from this view.

1927 R42

This nice 1927 R42 was photographed at the Beasley Ohio rally back in 1980. I've never seen this bike again - it's amazing how many nice machines are tucked away around the country.

1937 R6

A real nice looking 1937 R6 with 1937 Royal sidecar that one of my web page readers was lucky enough to buy just recently! As much as I enjoy restoring an old bike and giving it a new life, there is a lot to be said for turning the key and going for a ride instead!

1936 R5

Good view of a mostly all original 1936 R5. This style front fender certainly was a beauty. The 1935-36 twins had cast aluminum headlight ears, which stand out in this photo only because the paint has faded at a different rate then the steel parts. Behind the R5 is a rough and ready R42.

two mirror sizes

So did you know that there are two different mirror sizes available on the Hella spotlight mirrors? The spotlights themselves are the same, only the mirror glass, mirror trim ring, and mirror base are different - and can be readily changed from one to the other. The smaller mirror has about 2.5 inches of glass showing, the larger one has about 3.25 inches. The larger mirror is generally seen more often here in the States.

one owner KS601el

While I was looking around for a few parts for my 1956 KS601el, I ran into this one-owner, 99% original 1957 KS601el that had just come up for sale. I didn't hesitate a second - it's now mine! The original red paint is beautiful. The bike also came with the original tool kit and owners books. Look for more photos soon.

Here's a nice comparison shot of a standard 1960-69 sized twin battery tray and a 12volt dual battery (a.k.a. "Police") tray for the same bikes. The 12v tray bolts to just the left (kickstarter) side battery tray mounting hole, then clamps to the frame itself using a special bracket with welded on nuts (seen here between the two trays). The batteries that were used in this tray are only about 60% as deep (front to back) as the normal 'single' battery. The upper mounting bracket of the 12v tray pushes the whole assembly out towards the engine, so the net effect is that even though the dual battery isn't as deep, the front side of the battery is located in the same place relative to the air filter.

R67/2

This gorgeous late model R67/2 recently came up for sale down in Australia and is now on the way to the USA. This is absolutely the way to find them!

VDO clock

A few screens back I showed you a photo of the rubber mounted VDO clock - here's another style also used on motorcycles. This one looks very much like a standard VDO tachometer, which is seen next to it for comparison.
